Nebraska Appleseed

Intern

August 2021 • Lincoln, NE

What I liked

I loved the community aspect of working for Nebraska Appleseed and networking with several amazing team members who helped me throughout my working experience. My boss assisted me not only with professional development, but with networking myself with government officials and lobbyists in the city of Lincoln. I gained an ample amount of experience that will seriously benefit my future endeavors, and I hope that one day I might return to this amazing organization. They emphasize race equity frequently throughout team meetings and their 'Welcoming Work,' and they've got a very diverse staff, which both make this organization appealing to racial minorities like myself. They were laid back with the amount of hours you could put forth each week, and were very understanding of other school commitments. I would highly recommend interning, or working for this organization, and truly loved and will cherish the times I spent with them.

What I wish was different

Nothing, I loved how they crafted the internship around your own personal goals and necessities.

Advice

I would recommend that interns take the imitative in finding out how the organization works, and what they want to do with it. Research the non-profit's website, look into different aspects of their work you might find more appealing. Find ways that you can apply your own skills and strong suits to the work they have you do.
