We are recruiting for a facilities project manager to join our team in La Grande! In this role, you will provide technical assistance in planning, designing, contracting and the administration of major construction, capital improvement and major maintenance projects for our department’s administrative sites. A day in the life:
  • Determine project needs, goals, objectives, budget, initial schedule and project strategy.
  • Work with senior management (or designee) and consultants to determine facility construction and remodel needs, goals and objectives for the project.
  • Provide consultation and technical guidance in developing customer needs.
  • Execute contract development and administration.
  • Oversee and review the work of consultants in design phase.
  • Review construction contract documents to ensure that compatible and cost-effective materials, equipment, building systems and construction methods are being proposed.
  • Meet with consultants and general contractors to review project progress, identifying and resolving problems.
  • Meet with customer representatives to receive and provide information vital to project success.
  • Prepare and provide a variety of reports and analyses, including if the project is meeting budgetary goals and project schedules.
  • Visit worksites and conduct field visits to examine construction site conditions and inspect construction quality and progress.
  • Assist in developing capital construction, capital improvement, safety rest area rehabilitation and major maintenance plans.
  • Work is primarily performed in an office environment with remote work options available.
  • Frequent travel, including some overnight travel, required.
  • Occasional field work may involve exposure to traffic hazards, construction equipment, working in inclement weather conditions, and walking on rough terrain and stooping or bending around structures or equipment.
  • May be required to attend evening meetings as needed and work long hours during emergencies.

What we need:
Six years of progressively responsible experience related to the class series concept.
OR
A bachelor’s degree in construction management, business administration, public administration, architecture, planning or engineering; and three years of progressively responsible experience related to the class series concept.
OR
An associate’s degree (or comparable course work) in architectural, construction or engineering technology; and four and one-half years of progressively responsible experience related to the class series concept.
Note: Possession of a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification awarded by the Project Management Institute (PMI), Oregon Project Management Associate Certification (OPMA) or other related certification will substitute for 1 year of the qualifying experience.

Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

  • Highly knowledgeable in the area of construction project management.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) and experience working with a variety of people including contractors and vendors.
  • Knowledgeable of Oregon laws, rules, regulations and policies in procurement and construction.
  • Knowledgeable of architecture and engineering and skilled in reading construction documents and specifications.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply tact and diplomacy to gain cooperation of others and handle multiple priorities at the same time.
