Financial Aid Specialist Sr. #495070

Job Summary: Lamar University is looking for a personable, team player, with the ability to communicate complex financial information in an easy-to-understand manner for the Financial Aid Specialist Sr position #495070. This is a rewarding position where customer service and problem-solving skills are needed to help students find effective solutions to fund their education. •    My Scholarships System
o   Ensure qualifications of recipients and push offers
o  Coordinate and present training sessions for deans, department chairs, and account managers 
for the scholarship system
o   Award and maintain General Academic Scholarships within scholarship system
o   Follow up with students regarding post acceptance requirements
o   Ensure Lamar University Foundation receives all post acceptance documents
o   Assist/train LU employees with utilizing the system
o   Assist students with login issues, navigating the system

 •   Endowment awards
o   Request endowment budgets from LU Foundation and Finance
o   Update/maintain budgets in My Scholarships and Banner
o   Ensure all endowment budgets are expended while all donor criteria and agreement terms are met
o   Update and maintain “Puzzle” (Endowments that fund generals)
o   Work with departments regarding donor selection criteria

 •   Third Party Scholarships
o   Retrieve 3rd party scholarship documentation from Cashier Office
o   Post and/or request adjustment of Financial Aid

•   Banner Uploads and API
o   Download reports from My Scholarships that needs to be posted in RPPAWRD
o   Navigate upload process into Banner
o   Rectify errors from upload and API

•    Miscellaneous 
o   Request and/or run needed Argos reports (enrollment, grades, etc.)
o   Post manual disbursements received from Departments (shared)
o   Work Scholarship Office voicemails
o   Assist with job duties of Scholarship Coordinator or Scholarship Director in their absence
o   Award, process, post Lamar University Scholarships
o   Collaborate with Financial Aid in regard to over awards or adjustments

Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):
·    Bachelor’s Degree Required or equivalent work experience in higher education
·    Able to obtain and retain full access to NSLDS (National Student Loan Database System)
·    Proficient with computer software: Excel, Word, and Microsoft Outlook
·    Basic math and accounting skills
·    Excellent organization, communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications (Education and Experience):
Experience working with Endowed and Institutional Scholarships 
Knowledge of NexGen Scholarship Manager system
Experience with Banner system

Salary: $37,000
