GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the general supervision of a professional superior, performs professional work in instructing preschool aged children. Work involves teaching preschool aged children basic pre-elementary subjects. Work includes planning, organizing, and supervising classroom activities to promote the social, emotional, intellectual, and psychological growth of preschool aged children. Instruction is individual or in groups and is adapted to needs, interests, and abilities of the child. Work is reviewed through conferences, observations, and review of lesson plans. Performs other work as requested.
Note: Most employees within this classification are paid an hourly rate and work ten (10) months or less a year.
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor or master's degree in early childhood education.
 
SUBSTITUTIONS
Bachelor or master's degree with 12 hours in childhood education or child development and experience teaching preschool aged children.
 
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS
(Unless otherwise specified below, must possess at the time of appointment and must be maintained current throughout employment in this classification.)

OTHER JOB ASPECTS
Must be able to bend, stoop, and lift 50 pounds.
Must be able to ride and travel on a school bus.
Position(s) in this classification may require typing or other computer software skills.
