Part Time UW-Madison Payroll Position

This position supports the UW-Madison, College of Letters & Science, Department of Philosophy. The department has more than 100 employees, including faculty, academic staff, university staff, and graduate and undergraduate students. The department payroll size and complexity continues to grow as the unit expands. There is an active summer presence as well in the department. Several summer courses are offered which keeps payroll moving through the calendar year.

Under general supervision of the Department Administrator, this position is responsible for routine processing and daily management of payroll transactions for the Department of Philosophy. Duties include bi-weekly payroll processing, funding entry, appointment changes, and student appointment transactions. Enter leave information. Principal duties:Prepares, organizes, disseminates, and processes payroll resources, communications, and materials for one or more work units through various mediums under general supervision. (30%)

Prepares and audits standard work unit payrolls, and completes payroll transactions and changes adhering to established policies and procedures to meet anticipates deadlines. (30%)

Receives, responds to, and resolves employee payroll questions and problems. (15%)

In compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, verify the identity and employment eligibility for each employee. (10%)

Each month, provide administrative support to the department chair who sends out individualized thank you letters to department financial donors. (10%)

Counsels new, existing, and terminating employees on payroll options, timelines, taxes, and deductions. (5%)
