Team Member Services Generalist (Human Resources Generalist)

The Team Member Services Generalist (Human Resources Generalist) supports multiple locations and is responsible for employee relations, recruitment, compliance (including federal and state labor issues), development, and benefits programs. This individual provides strategic guidance to the locations and partners with both regional and operations teams to accomplish store/regional/company goals and initiatives. The position includes a heavy, diverse workload and requires strong problem-solving skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to proactively respond to changes, identify and creatively respond to the needs of the business, and work well with others. This position appreciates both team dynamics and autonomy, as well as intrinsic motivation to meet and drive organizational goals.
Responsibilities
  • Supports locations through providing advice and partnership relating to various HR functions and processes, including:
  • Recruitment
  • Performance management, talent assessment, and Team Member development
  • Employee relations
  • General HR functions
  • Compensation and benefits
  • Diversity and inclusion
  • Succession and replacement planning
  • Ensures all processes associated with payroll, new hire, transfer, and termination transactions are accurate and up to date
  • Responsible for team member communication, education, and advice on all HR programs and systems
  • Provides excellent customer service to all team members
  • Recommends system and process improvements for related HR functions
  • Builds consensus and resolves internal disputes on HR policy and practice decisions
  • Partners with Regional HR teams on special projects and assignments
  • Provides local support for Regional programs and initiatives
  • Influences others to behave in an ethical manner
  • Ensures compliance and proper application of all federal, state, and local laws, including FMLA, I-9, SOX, and FLSA
  • Ensures leadership understanding of and compliance with applicable company policies/practices
  • Ensures all legal and employment postings are visible and current
  • Maintains an open-door policy for all team members
  • Maintains and oversees team member files
  • Fulfills HR responsibilities associated with all parts of the unemployment process, including responding to claims, appeals, and participating in hearings
Skills
  • Strongly understands HR concepts, practices, programs, and methodologies
  • Understands company Human Resources policies, practices, and expectations
  • Understands and able to apply parameters of labor issues including FMLA, ADA, HIPAA, and Leaves of Absence
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local HR regulations and how they affect and are applied within Whole Foods Market (WFM)
  • Working knowledge of HRMS systems and programs
  • Strong skills in change management
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Kronos, Workday, and other HRIS
  • Builds engaging relationships with stakeholders through trust, teamwork, and direct communication
  • Tailors communication approach to specific situations and audiences
  • Provides first point of contact for leadership and/or Team Member questions
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage conflict
  • Communicates and demonstrates support for HR decisions, even if not in alignment with own point of view
  • Makes sound decisions based on available information
  • Gathers, consolidates, and analytically processes information
  • Demonstrates good knowledge of statistics, research methods, measurement concepts, and metrics
  • Engages in preliminary analysis of collected data and reports findings to Leadership/Department Managers
  • Analyzes data, reports findings, and trends
  • Possesses clear understanding of WFM business objectives and supported region/stores
  • Understands how effective people and organization management systems can differentiate WFM from the competition
  • Understands the WFM product mix, supply base, and retail operations
  • Team player with a positive attitude
  • Works effectively with others in groups and in cross-functional settings with diverse internal and external stakeholders
  • Adheres to the WFM principles and core values
  • Displays strong levels of customer service
  • Ability to independently facilitate team member trainings on various HR related topics
Knowledge & Abilities
  • 2+ years of relevant and proven experience in the field of human resources
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent experience
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and high level of honesty and integrity with sound judgment
  • Must have a high degree of approachability
  • Positive attitude and willingness to assist team members
  • Ability to be accurate in work and be detail oriented
  • Ability to comprehend instructions, correspondence, technical procedures, and adherence to state and federal laws related to payroll, benefits, workers compensation, deadlines, and policies
  • Ability to create effective written correspondence such as letters and e-communication
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions in one-on-one situations, meetings, and group presentations involving team members, team leadership, store leadership, and regional leadership
  • Ability to perform basic math and effectively use Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook) at an entry level
  • Ability to train in small/large group settings and lead meetings
  • Position requires flexibility for all shifts and all schedules
  • Ability to travel when requested, could be up to 50% depending on relevant markets and frequency of store openings
