Apprentice Crime Scene Tech

The Crime Scene Unit operates 24/7/365 and provides forensic services to the Richardson Police Department. We are very excited about our new Public Safety Complex, which opened in December 2019, that includes a state-of-the-art crime lab!

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Undergo classroom training, field training and other instruction designed to prepare the apprentice for assuming the duties and responsibilities of Crime Scene Technician
  • Crime scene investigations – from property crimes to death investigations
  • Identifying, collecting and/or processing physical evidence
  • Latent fingerprint comparison
  • Various aspects of photography including still photography and video
  • Testify at court

Basic Job Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Able to communicate effectively in English
  • Valid driver's license
  • One-year general work experience required

  • Be flexible as to duty hours and call-outs
  • Detail oriented
  • Able to function in a fast-paced environment

You'll Receive Extensive Training in:
  • Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS)
  • Latent print comparisons
  • Processing crime scenes
  • Operating camera equipment
  • Mixing and using chemicals
  • Operating computer terminal and associated imaging software and hardware
  • Court testimony

Salary is $3,245/month. Promotional growth is available with our Crime Scene Technician and Criminalist positions.

We pay for all training and certifications.
