Overview of the Legal Fellow Honors Program:
The Legal Function's mission is to provide high-quality legal services to the New York Fed. The function is headed by the Bank's general counsel and is divided into three divisions, each headed by a deputy general counsel.
The Legal Fellow Honors Program is designed to give lawyers the opportunity to work at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York for a period two years. Legal Fellows will rotate through the various functions in the Legal Group and may work on a variety of matters including: financial institution supervision and regulatory matters, regulatory enforcement investigations, financial services, conflicts of interests, and other compliance and ethics questions.
You will report to the COO of the Group Ops & Strategy in Legal.
Your role as a Legal Fellow:
  • Conduct research and writing on a broad range of issues
  • Prepare briefing materials for meetings and both internal and external presentations by members of the Legal Group
  • Provide summaries and analyses of congressional hearings, think tank policy discussions, draft legislation, and proposed regulations that are relevant to the Bank and the Federal Reserve System
  • Assist with Freedom of Information requests
  • Support the work of the Compliance Function, including assisting with due diligence reviews, suspicious activity monitoring, conflicts of interest review, and personal trading compliance.
What we are looking for:
  • Third-year law student or recent law school graduate participating in a judicial clerkship, or law fellowship for a period of two years or , such as with a public service organization, a foundation, a federal, state or municipal agency Honors Program who have taken or plan to take the Connecticut, New York or New Jersey State Bar Exam.
  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Strong academic background
  • Strong analytical and organizational abilities
  • Poise and maturity to deal directly with client
