The Division of insurance is seeking an individual to provide financial analysis of South Dakota insurance companies. The Financial specialist will conduct a variety of analysis and financial review of domestic insurance companies. The Financial Specialist evaluates and monitors financial risks held or potentially held by insurance companies and other affiliated entities doing business in South Dakota.
This position is exempt from the Civil Service Act.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
A bachelor’s degree in business, economics, accounting, or similar from an accredited college or university is preferred..Individuals with financial or credit analysis experience in lieu of insurance related experience are encouraged to apply.
Knowledge of:
  • accounting principles;
  • financial statement review;
  • insurance operations, risks, and risk management techniques;
  • risks that could emerge from non-insurance operations of a group;
  • applicable laws, policies, and procedures;
  • procedures for the storage and retrieval of information;
  • financial Analysis Handbook.
Skill to:
  • communicate clearly;
  • review, document, provide conclusions and make recommendations regarding the financialing condition of insurance companies.
Ability to:
  • obtain an APIR, PIR, AFE, or designations of similar knowledge;
  • attend educational opportunities and expand knowledge or insurance company financial risk;
  • understand and evaluate the enterprise risk management functions of insurers;
  • research and apply applicable laws, regulations, procedures and practices and the NAIC statutory accounting practices;
  • recommend decisions based on reasonable and timely analysis;
  • evaluate and challenge information provided by the company;
  • multi-task, manage multiple projects, and effectively manage time;
  • adapt to changing expectations and environments;
  • use MS Word, Excel, Adobe and other related software programs;
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;
  • use electronic workpaper documentation tools;
  • communicate recommendations to the Financial Supervisor and Assistant Director.
