GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  


The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is seeking several AIS (Aquatic Invasive Species) Specialists located throughout the state. These eight (8) or nine (9) month positions are responsible for implementing the state's aquatic invasive species program. The successful applicants will take primary responsibility for outreach, watercraft inspection and monitoring in one of the Department's AIS management regions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.

 
  • Provide technical support and supervision to watercraft inspectors. 
  • Supervising and conducting watercraft inspections and decontamination
  • Hiring, training, and supervising watercraft inspectors
  • Providing outreach information and assistance to the public
  • Water quality and invasive species sampling, data entry and analysis, and report writing.

 
QUALIFICATIONS:
PREFERENCES: 


Will be given to those with a Bachelor's degree in natural resources, or 3-4 years progressive work experience in watercraft inspection or customer service. 


KNOWLEDGE: 

 
  • Must be familiar with Wyoming AIS laws and regulations.
  • Must be able to work well independently and with others.
  • Requires effective written and oral communication and public relations skills.

 NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

 
  • Weekend and holiday work will be required.
  • Position will require some statewide travel.
  • Positions require completion of inspector training course and certification provided by the Department.
 

NOTES: 
 
  • FLSA: Non-Exempt
  • All new hires or rehires starting in a non-exempt position on or after January 1, 2018 are required to be paid hourly.
  • Locations include but are not limited to Cheyenne, Cody, Sheridan, and Evanston Wyoming.
  • Tentative starting date is February 1, 2020. These positions are eight (8) or 9-month (40 hrs/wk) at-will contract.  
  • Uniform and other necessary gear will be provided when in the field.
