Finance Intern

   Finance Intern

The City of Santa Clarita is committed to providing a challenging and meaningful work experience for college students. The City offers unique opportunities for students to gain hands-on and in-depth experience in a variety of disciplines related to local, regional, state, and federal government operations. We provide real world work assignments, which provide interns the opportunity to work side-by-side with professional City staff committed to teamwork and providing superior municipal services to the community of Santa Clarita. The Finance intern will support the implementation and conversion of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) financial software. 

SALARY:                          $16.03 – $20.31/hour
OPENING DATE:         11/1/2019
CLOSING DATE:          11/19/2019

20-30 hours per week is preferred. Expected duration of this internship is from December 2019 to March 2021.

DESCRIPTION/DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
-     Conduct financial research and data verification
-     Conduct financial analysis for department and/or division budgets
-     Draft, proof, and prepare memos, reports, and analyses
-     Analyze and prepare recommendations related to process efficiency
-     Attend various weekly, monthly, and quarterly meetings

The following skills, knowledge, and abilities are highly desirable:
-     General understanding of governmental organizations and municipal operations
-     Ability to work independently and as part of a team
-     Research techniques, survey methods, and data collection
-     Flexibility and ability to handle multiple priorities
-     Excellent oral and written communications
-     Ability to foster effective working relationships with all levels of staff and the community
-     Computer experience, including Outlook, Word, and Excel

EDUCATION:
If you are a current undergraduate student or recent graduate in the fields of Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or a related field and are interested in gaining meaningful, hands-on work experience at the local government level, this may be the program for you.

Part-time, temporary and seasonal (PTS) workers are at-will. 

As a City of Santa Clarita public employee, you may be called upon to work as a Disaster Service Worker (DSW) in the event of an emergency (in accordance with Government Code §§ 3100-3109). Before entering upon the duties of employment, all public employees, except those excluded by law, take and subscribe to an oath or affirmation set forth in the California Constitution, declaring them to be Disaster Service Workers in time of need.
