Life Sciences Career Trainee, Marion

Under direct supervision of the Marion Region Manager, Field Operation Section (FOS), in the Bureau of Land (BOL) participates in an Agency sponsored training program of twelve months' duration, receiving work assignments designed to observe, participate or conduct field investigations, observations, and to assist professional staff with sampling and other pollution sources. Receives training to prepare comprehensive and technical reports pertaining to the appropriate regulations.

Educationand Experience: Requires a bachelor's degree in a field of the life sciences. This class is included as an Upward Mobility credential title.
Knowledge,Skills. and Abilities: Requires ability to prepare comprehensive written and oral reports; requires ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions: requires ability to profit from training received in the designated area of slate government; requires ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with other employees and agency representatives.
SpecificJob Requirements: Requires ability to participate in the medical monitoring program, and ability to pass a physical examination which Is intended to determine whether a person can wear respirator protection and function in high heat stress situations while wearing chemical protective clothing; capable of wearing an air purifying respirator for a long period of time (e.g. ten hours with only short 15 minute breaks); carry and utilize a self-contained breathing apparatus (weighing approximately 25 pounds), in addition to wearing respiratory protection mentioned above, ability to wear chemical resistant clothing in high heat stress situations while performing strenuous physical tasks (e.g. carrying equipment up a steep ravine al a temperature of 100F) to lift heavy equipment (e.g. 45 pounds); hearing and eye sight must be good or correctable in order to respond to emergency field conditions; must have a valid Illinois driver's license when driving to sites for travel with overnight stays.
