The Company: The Office of the State Auditor (OSA) performs an array of work, including financial statement audits, performance audits, information technology audits, and forensic investigations. We examine all facets of state government, including education, health, transportation, computer systems, regulatory processes, and public safety. We conduct special studies as requested by the Legislature and audit federal grant programs to ensure North Carolina can continue to receive federal money.

The Position: We’re looking for an Assistant State Auditor I in the Financial Audit Division. The pay range we’re offering is $56,497 - $66,166.

Requirements:
·        Bachelor’s degree with 24 semester hours in accounting
·        Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team
·        Experience in critical thinking, listening, following instructions, and attention to detail
·        Eagerness to learn, and the ability to transfer knowledge from one task to the next
·        Ability to remain engaged in multiple projects
·        Strong written and oral communication skills

Responsibilities:
The financial division of the NC Office of the State Auditor is responsible for expressing an opinion on the fairness of the State's financial statements (included in the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report) and the State’s compliance with federal compliance requirements (included in the State's Single Audit). We audit an array of state agencies, all of the Universities in the UNC system, community colleges, and other entities within the State. We also perform audits of Clerk of Courts with various objectives.

Positions at this level are entry-level professional auditors who will contribute to the financial and compliance testing aspects of the audits collaboratively within an audit team. As experience is gained, the auditor will become more involved in all stages of the audit. The employee will benefit from formal training, as well as on-the-job training from the Audit Supervisor or Auditor-In-Charge.
