Consider a career in fire service with the East Bay  Regional Park District Fire Department, specializing in wildland firefighting and hands-on fuels reduction. The Fire Department is a branch of the Public Safety Division and provides all typical emergency services, including fire suppression, hazardous materials responses, search and rescue, auto extrication, emergency medical services, prescribed burns for fire hazard reduction and resource management. The department has 14 wildland fire engines to provide service for 73 parks and responds to approximately 1,200 calls per year. The Fire Department works closely with our neighboring agencies in Alameda and Contra Costa counties and provides emergency response when called upon by CAL FIRE and the Office of Emergency Services.

Vacancy Situation: The Park District currently has two (2) Fire Lieutenant vacancies located at Fire
Station #1 (Orinda, CA). The hiring pools established as a result of this recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancies and additional vacancies that may occur during the one year life of the hiring pools.

What You'll Be Doing: Under general direction, You will supervise staff and oversee the activities of a fire station, ensuring the efficient operations of the firefighting company. You will supervise, direct, and participate in fire suppression, emergency medical response, technical rescue, hazardous material incidents, mutual aid calls, fire prevention, and fuels reduction; and perform related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Performs and supervises firefighting work, including directing the activities of a firefighting
company;
• Plans, organizes and directs the activities of station personnel, ensuring operational readiness;
• Supervises, trains and evaluates station personnel;
• Maintains and enforces departmental policies and procedures and standard operating guidelines;
• Assumes incident command in the absence of a Chief Officer or Fire Captain;
• Identifies training needs of station personnel;
• Provides or coordinates recurring training programs for the Fire Department and Park District
employees;
• Conducts basic preliminary fire investigations and prepares related reports;
• Participates in life safety inspection activities of park and facilities for fire hazards, public
education and special service requests as assigned;
• Leads, directs and participates in crew performance of fire hazard reduction work including
removal of wildland fuels, construction of fuel breaks, and prescribed burning;
• Plans and schedules projects according to fuel reduction needs;
• Coordinates project work with park supervisors and staff;
• Prepares, reviews reports and maintains appropriate records;
• Represents the Fire Department at various meetings with other departments and outside
agencies;
• Reviews and comments on property acquisition evaluations;
• Performs related duties as assigned.
