Research Technician I, Cell Polarity in Development and Cancer

The Vasioukhin Laboratory in the Prostate Cancer Program at Fred Hutch seeks an experienced research technician to study the prostate cancer. Dr. Vasioukhin laboratory has a long-standing interest in understanding the mechanisms of normal tissue homeostasis, transformation, tumor progression and metastasis. The laboratory focuses on murine prostate gland epithelium and skin epidermis as primary in vivo research model systems. It is also extensively using primary human prostate organoid cultures. The laboratory employs a combination of murine genetic, molecular, and microscopic methods to uncover the mechanisms underlying cancer initiation and progression, as well as to explore new avenues for therapeutic treatments.
 
This position requires a high level of organization, a keen eye for detail, and accurate and thorough record keeping. We seek a candidate who is consistent in executing lab protocols and can swiftly adapt and troubleshoot new ones. Students seeking 3-4 years of research experience before entering MD or PhD programs are especially encouraged to apply.


Responsibilities

  • Perform experiments at the bench level to support investigative work
  • Prepare and maintain laboratory reagents, stocks, cultures or cell lines
  • Perform and modify documented protocols and assays
  • Maintain laboratory records and compile data on experiments and assays
  • Interpret and report on experimental results
  • Perform statistical analysis of test results and prepare written reports on work performed
  • Operate and carry out basic maintenance of laboratory equipment
  • Prepare and present written or oral progress reports concerning studies, including assembly, organization, and interpretation of data
  • Assist in publication of results by proofreading, editing, and contributing ideas
  • May perform statistical analyses, manage research data base
  • Perform other duties as required
  • After completion of necessary training, perform individual research projects and publish research papers


Qualifications

  • Recent BA/BS in Biochemistry or Biology
  • Previous experience working in a laboratory
  • Research experience outside of laboratory course work is necessary
  • A strong foundation in molecular and cell biology
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
