Environmental Health Specialist I - Toxicologist
Under the immediate supervision of the Office of Toxicity Assessment (TOX) Manager, observes and participates in the review of human health and ecological risk assessments consistent with Illinois EPA and U.S.EPA protocols. Observes and assists in investigations, literature reviews, and assessments to identify specific hazards that may exist to the exposed human and ecological population as a result of exposure to hazardous substances. Assists in preparing fact sheets, special studies and projects. Assists in providing consultation to citizens, physicians, government agencies and other segments of the public. Observes and participates in conduction community involvement activities in areas where persons may be exposed to hazardous substances. Assists in the assessment of past, present or potential future exposure to hazardous substances using established or suggested standards or guidelines. Attend professional meetings and trainings as assigned. Travels in performance of duties.
Education and Experience: Requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college with a minimum of 30 semester hours in the physical and/or biological sciences.
Specific Job Requirements: Requires the ability to utilize a personal computer with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access software. Requires the ability to travel and a valid driver's license.
