Materials Damage Tolerance Summer Intern - AS0001NV

Responsibilities:
The selected candidate will provide engineering support to the Damage Tolerance Branch within the Materials and Processes Lab at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center.

The responsibilities of the Damage Tolerance Branch are to:
  • Define and develop fracture test plans for conventional metallic, additively manufactured metallic, composite and ablative parts
  • Provide technical insight to develop and document necessary mechanical test plans related to tensile, fracture and fatigue crack growth
  • Submit testing requests and provide assessments of mechanical test data for tensile, fracture and fatigue crack growth
  • Provide technical insight to define and perform necessary fracture and fatigue crack growth analytical predictions
  • Perform analytical predictions of fracture and fatigue crack growth, perform fracture control reviews and insight support, and provide materials review
  • Provide technical insight for fracture control implementation for hardware including development or review of Fracture Control Plans and coordination of data for development or review of Fracture Control Summary Reports
  • Provide technical insight for review of materials related to fracture and damage tolerance of composites and metallic structures



Qualifications:
BS in Materials Science/Engineering or related field from an ABET accredited institution is required. 
 
Must be able to provide own transportation. 
 
Desired Skills:
  • Composites experience is highly desired.
  • Structural mechanics analysis experience.
 
 
Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
