Intern - Renewables Strategies (Origination)

Position Summary
Role of the intern is to assist the Origination Team with routine and ad hoc analysis projects. Broad area of work includes Renewable Energy Credit (REC) reporting and Request for Proposal (RFP) analysis for wind and solar renewable assets.

Position Description
The intern will be directed and trained as required by the REC Trader and RFP Analyst to complete project work and reporting tasks based on the desk’s needs during the term of employment. For example, intern may be asked to investigate and perform quantitative analysis on the changes in near and long term pricing forecast for RECs in various regions throughout the country where Avangrid Renewables has operating assets. The intern may also participate in the RFP response process, gathering, analyzing and formatting data in preparation of responding to certain components of RFP with the company offering. The intern will be working extensively with varied data sets in Microsoft Excel and other analytical tools, and will use professional communication skills to summarize findings to senior staff.  Intern will be given latitude to connect with other groups and departments as appropriate to job responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
·        Assist Origination with projects related to REC trading and RFP analysis
·        Review and streamlining of tools and processes related to reporting
·        Development of review methods to enhance consistency and accuracy of reporting
·        Creation and delivery of presentations related to work

Project Examples
·        Analyzing impacts of regulatory and policy changes to market fundamentals; supply/demand curves and price forecasting
·        Clean up of analysis tools such as SQL data scrapers and Excel tools related to systematic reporting analytics for REC and RFP reporting
·        Review and recommendations to improve the internal REC and RFP processes
·        Continue with development of a deal tracking database

Required Qualifications
·        Working towards a Bachelor’s degree in an analytical subject such as engineering, economics, science or business
·        Demonstrated knowledge with MS Office applications (primarily Excel)
·        Strong analytical and quantitative skills including working knowledge of statistics
·        Demonstrated accountability for results and strong attention to detail
·        Ability to communicate with tenured professionals across a variety of disciplines

Preferred Qualifications
·        Modeling expertise in Excel or SQL or VisualBasic
·        Knowledge of bulk electric power generation and markets
·        Knowledge of renewable energy generation technology and industry
·        Completion or partial completion of advanced degree in a similar type of subject
