Program Coordinator

Position Summary
Big Bend Community College seeks candidates for the position of Program Coordinator for the college's Open Doors Program.  This position coordinates support services for students in the Open Doors program and works as part of a team supporting student attendance, school success, and is responsible for helping high school student who have disengaged from the school community to return to be successful. This is a full-time, 12-month, benefit eligible, classified staff position.  
 
Primary responsibilities are to assist school intervention teams in re-engaging students who are full of promise, but have not historically benefited from educational programs or systems; maintain a caseload of students and families; provide school reintegration services including collaboration with school staff to develop an individualized plan for each student; provide academic support, skill building, mentoring and other individualized and group supports; and help every student with a definitive plan for the future and the resources needed to accomplish their plan. 

BBCC is a small rural community college located in the sunny, central part of Washington State, and is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Big Bend Community College serves approximately 4,000 students, with an annualized FTE of approximately 2,000, in a 4,600-square-mile service district including 15 communities in Grant and Adams counties and the Odessa School District in Lincoln County with on-site, online instruction, and interactive classrooms.

Essential Job Duties
Primary essential duties and responsibilities include but will not be limited to the following:
  1. Maintain a caseload of students and families with barriers/challenges to attendance and or who have disengaged from the school community or at-risk of disengaging.
  2. Provide case coordination to ensure successful reentry of students served.
  3. Maintain weekly status check-in with each student through face-to-face, telephone, e-mail, messaging, or other means of communication.
  4. Develop a supportive and trusting relationship with at-risk students and identify the specific issues impacting student engagement in school and academic performance.
  5. Work with student to establish academic and career goals and develop life plans.
  6. Work with school counselor, social service workers, and community partners to develop personalized service plans to address social/emotional issues impacting performance.
  7. Monitor student academic progress, attendance, and behavior and provide personalized interventions as needed to keep the student on-track for graduation.
  8. Facilitate events and workshops for character building and career exploration.
  9. Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit monthly student activity logs and required documentation.
  10. Work with students to explore career interests and opportunities, and establish personal goals.
  11. Assist student with exploring multiple educational pathways that meet their academic goals.
  12. Work with receiving schools to facilitate enrollment and monitor student persistence.
  13. Work with students, parents and schools to develop individual success plans for each student.
  14. Maintain all student records, student plans, and performance tracking reports.
  15. Maintain database for tracking participate data, activity delivery, and student participation data.
  16. Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested by the supervisor.
 DUTIES OF THE POSITION REQUIRE EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE IN:
  1. Organizing work and maintaining detailed files and records.
  2. Evaluating and meeting the social service needs of at-risk students, and coordinating the efforts of various social service agencies and community organizations.
  3. Utilizing strong written and oral communication skills in a professional setting.
  4. The use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word,Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.) in a professional setting.
  5. Experience handling difficult and sensitive issues in an effective and confidential manner.

  8. Work with minimal supervision outside of a formalized, central office setting. 
  9. Work with confidential records and/or information.
  10. Work flexible hours to meet the needs of students and families and to attend evening meetings.
  11. Provide excellent customer service in a multicultural environment.
  12. Provide services to diverse populations, keeping an open mind to opportunities for all.
  13. Work independently and reliably. Regular and consistent attendance is expected and required.
REQUIRED WORK SCHEDULE AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This is a 40 hour per week, Monday through Friday position. Work may be performed in an office setting utilizing a computer and keyboard or off-campus working with students, families, and school staff. Normal working hours are Monday through Friday. Hours of work are M-Th 7:30 am – 4:30pm; F 7:30am – 2:00pm. However, hours may be adjusted based upon college needs. Frequent use of the telephone required. 



 
Minimum & Desirable Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Bachelor's degree in social work, counseling, education, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution OR at least two years' experience providing case management, counseling, or related direct services to at-risk individuals or youth between the ages of sixteen (16) and twenty-one (21). 
  2. Current, unencumbered driver's license.
  3. Previous experience working with individuals from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethic backgrounds.
 DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Master's degree in Business or Education from a regionally accredited institution. 
  2. Previous experience teaching or working in a K-12 environment.  
  3. Experience with budgeting, tracking, and monitoring revenue and expenses.
  4. Bilingual fluency, especially in Spanish.
