Business Systems Coordinator

The Business Systems Coordinator works under the general direction of the Director of Information Technology. The Business Systems Coordinator participates in and coordinates the design, testing, implementation, and evaluation of automated and manual financial accounting systems. Work involves responsibility for the coordination of all computer business systems to include training assistance, user group discussions and financial report generation; will perform other work task as requested by other departments. This is professional, technical and analytical work involving administrative support of complex financial computer business systems using a considerable amount of independent judgment. 

Education Required: Graduation from an accredited 4 year college or university

Area of Study (major) Required: Computer science, Information Systems and Decision Sciences (ISDS), Management Information Systems (MIS) or related technical field with major course work in public administration, accounting or related field

Certification(s) Required: N/A
Preferred: Microsoft Certified Trainer

License(s) Required: Valid LA driver's license.

Years Relevant Work Experience: 2 years of relevant business systems functional area to include IT systems and software. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. 

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of modern business and data systems analysis and processing concepts, techniques, and operating principles
  • Knowledge of relevant functional area business, accounting and record keeping practices of municipal government 
  • Knowledge of Wide Area Networks
  • Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft operating and business systems to include design, research, configuration, and implementation
  • High in customer service and the ability to deal with the public with tact and courtesy
  • Skill in introductory training & instruction of end users
  • Skill in organizing and integrating information from a variety of sources
  • Skill in use of database applications
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to identify, evaluate and solve technical problems
  • Ability to establish and maintain a computer maintenance schedule

Functions and Duties:
  • Perform Server Management and Backend Maintenance
  • Perform Software Management and End-User Support
  • Perform End-User Security Account Management
  • Perform Business Analytics
  • Perform work in accordance with knowledge of BREC operations
  • Performs functional analysis for accounting staff, internal audit and external staff
  • Performs and participates in data interface design, data migration, and reconciliation
  • Assist in providing detail analysis for accounting staff
  • Monitors users input into the financial business computer system and assists in correction of erroneous input.
  • Researches and implements changes required in the business system due to changes in systems configuration or business policies
  • Install and maintain BREC custom software and appropriate hardware for users
  • Install and maintain PC software for users
  • Determine value in legacy software and recommend new or upgraded enhancements to existing software programs and operating systems
  • Research enhancements and improvements in existing software and recommend updates and upgrades of software
  • Verify that all custom software installed on clients is at the most current version, and that all clients are running the same versions
  • Answer all software-related requests for training, fixes, other issues and takes them to completion
  • Provide technical support and assistance to end users on software issues and desktop (PC) applications
  • Monitor and control the operation of end-user software. Determine the cause of malfunctions and take corrective action as needed. Coordinate the efforts of contractors, consultants, and vendors that are assigned such activities. Maintain a history log of service calls, vendor responsiveness, etc, for all software maintenance
  • Train end-users on BREC custom software
  • Train end-users on standard Microsoft applications and operating systems
  • Assist with IT Plan development and implementation
