Data Analyst-Technical -Staff or Senior

This position focuses the majority of their time producing analytical solutions (reports, dashboards, tools, etc.) for leadership and stakeholders across the organization that supports business or clinical initiatives. This position provides consultation and support in the development, analysis, interpretation, and management of a variety of routine to moderately complex data sources to support process improvement, operations, strategy, cost reduction and increased patient safety and satisfaction.
Essential Job Duties
This position is responsible for providing analytical support - typically at a system-wide level. May work as part of a system-wide team or interact with stakeholders across the system. Typically this position performs analysis on routine or moderately complex projects under general supervision. This position works with data sources serving the needs of customers in one or more business areas:
Corporate Finance: Provides expertise in financial analytics in the following areas: operating budgets, rolling forecasts, five-year plan, procedural costing, price setting and price change analysis, business statistics (units of service), operational benchmarking, productivity, staffing models, contract impact analysis, business cases and financial management reporting. Works with databases (SQL) to develop analyses in these areas. Acts as the liaison between finance, Business Applications, Information Systems and/or third-party vendors; and/or acts as the business administrators of financial tools such as Strata, Hyperion, SmartView, Kronos Analytics, ActionOI and Practice Insights to develop and maintain the systems. Regularly prepares presentations for and works with executive leadership including executive leadership team, the Board of Directors, Specialty and Community Based Care Triads, Clinical Service and Clinical Programs and Shared Support Services leaders.
Core Essentials:
  • 1. Creates reports that answer multiple related questions as well as reports with linked content, drilldown and nested parameters. The report is formatted in such a way that leads the user through the report in a well-organized, easy to understand fashion.
  • 2. Writes ad hoc SQL, including basic selects, joins, use of Where clause and simple functions (e.g., Trunc, Sum, Min, Max, Avg, Concat, etc.).
  • 3. Understanding of Primary / Foreign Keys, Table / Field Aliases, and Partitions / Indexes.
  • 4. Assists in the identification of data quality (accuracy, completeness, etc.) issues. Assists with the process of database design for assigned projects. As appropriate, trains other individuals and teams in the routine use of data collection, analysis, and reporting and interpretation tools for measuring performance.
 
Minimum Requirements (Staff)
  • Master's degree,
  • or Bachelor's degree with two years of analytics experience. Education must be obtained through an accredited institution. Degree will be verified.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and a working knowledge of SQL (structured query language), quality improvement principles, and a fundamental knowledge of database design principles.
  • Demonstrated experience in the developing, analyzing, interpreting, and managing of a variety of moderately complex data sets.
  • Demonstrated capabilities in planning, participating, and managing moderately complex analytics projects.
  • Demonstrated experience using word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet and e-mail, and scheduling applications.
  • Demonstrated experience in a role requiring effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Minimum Requirements (Senior)
  • Master's Degree and three years of analytics experience. or Bachelor's Degree with five years of analytics experience. Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution. Education is verified.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and an advanced working knowledge of SQL (structured query language), quality improvement principles, and a solid knowledge of database design principles.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, analyzing, interpreting, and managing a variety of complex data sets.
  • Demonstrated capabilities in planning, participating, and managing a variety of complex analytics projects.
  • Demonstrated strong proficiency using word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet and e-mail, and scheduling applications.
  • Demonstrated experience in a role requiring effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Solid experience using industry standard BI, statistical, or analytical tools and technologies.
  • Demonstrated applied understanding of data visualization design best practices.
 
Preferred Requirements (Staff)
  • Degree in an analytics related field such as statistics, mathematics, information systems, computer science, finance, business management, or economics.
  • If degree is not in an analytics related field, four years of analytics experience demonstrating proficiency performing the job essentials at this job level.
  • Basic understanding of statistical concepts and tools.
  • Basic understanding of some programing languages.
  • Applied understanding of data visualization design best practices.
  • Basic experience with SQL query tuning.
  • Subject matter experience strongly preferred in the job area (e.g. Finance/Accounting, Cost Accounting, Budgeting, etc.).
Preferred Requirements (Senior)
•Subject matter experience strongly preferred in the job area (e.g. Finance/Accounting, Cost Accounting, Budgeting, etc.).
•Expert experience with SQL query writing and tuning.
• Applied understanding of data visualization design best practices.
•Degree in an analytics related field such as statistics, mathematics, information systems, computer science, finance, business management, or economics.
•If degree is not in an analytics related field, 10 years of analytics experience demonstrating proficiency performing the job essentials at this job level.
• Intermediate understanding of statistical concepts and tools.
• Intermediate understanding of some programing languages.
