The OCME Autopsy Division handles approximately 2000 deaths per year and supports a staff of 8 pathologists. Autopsy technicians meet requirements and complete daily caseloads, including:

  • Autopsy Assistance (compliance with safety policies, eviscerations, post evisceration procedures, handling of evidence, radiographic procedures, record keeping and data entry)
  • Investigations (coordinate investigations and maintain investigation database)
  • Autopsy Facility Material Management (Ancillary postmortem duties and research)

Educational Requirements: Associate's Degree in the biological/anatomical, forensic, mortuary/funeral, or criminal justice sciences from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in the field of pathology, forensic pathology or decedent care; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
