Molecular Epidemiology Laboratory Specialist

The Molecular Epidemiology Unit of the NC State Laboratory of Public Health is currently accepting applications for a Laboratory Medical Specialist. This Unit plays a critical role in disease prevention, surveillance and response. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an emergency response, advanced technologist that provides molecular testing and characterization to support the National Laboratory Response Network. The position will work to achieve the goals established in the Public Health Emergency Preparedness Cooperative Agreement with the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention. In addition, the position will provide laboratory support to implement and validate next generation sequencing protocols to characterize bacterial and viral agents of public health concern and will provide testing support during foodborne outbreak response.  This work is performed in BSL 2 & 3 laboratories, using BSL 2 & 3 work practices. Personal protective equipment as required. 

Education Requirements: Bachelor's degree in medical technology, microbiology, chemistry, biology, or a closely related biological science field from an appropriately accredited institution.
