Academic Advising Coordinator-New Opportunities in Aviation (NOA) Grant

Position Summary
Big Bend Community College invites applications for a New Opportunities in Aviation (NOA) Grant Academic Advising Coordinator position. This position is paid through grant funding.

The NOA Grant Academic Advising Coordinator oversees achievement of advising activity objectives and implementation strategies outlined in the New Opportunities in Aviation (NOA) Title V Grant. The coordinator assists in developing and piloting new advising services as well as providing appropriate training for advising staff and faculty. The position assists with data collection and analysis for activity evaluation and assists in institutionalizing new advising practices and improvements in ongoing operations. This position reports to the Director of Title V Grants.

BBCC is a small rural community college located in the sunny, central part of Washington State, and is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Big Bend Community College serves approximately 4,000 students annually, with an annualized FTE of approximately 2,000, in a 4,600-square-mile service district including 15 communities in Grant and Adams counties and the Odessa School District in Lincoln County with on-site, online instruction, and interactive classrooms.

Essential Job Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
Responsibilities will include but will not be limited to the following: 
  • Lead advising efforts for the NOA grant including the Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and Mechatronics programs developed by the grant.
  • Lead in the design, development and piloting of new advising systems.
  • Coordinate with other BBCC staff to develop BBCC web page modifications that support new advising systems. This may include developing online advising dashboard tools and customized interactive academic, career, and transfer resources.
  • Develop and coordinate faculty and staff training and development on new advising strategies and tools.
  • Assist with data collection and analysis for ongoing evaluation of advising services and the NOA UAS grant program; prepare formative and summative evaluation reports.
  • Provide complete and accurate reports to the Director of Title V Grants.
  • Serve as the liaison between BBCC and advising teams from other colleges and universities.
  • Provide students with educational guidance and assistance in meeting certificate and degree requirements.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of the latest trends in field of expertise.
  • Ensure no injuries to self or others by following safe work practices and policies. This includes, but is not limited to: security and safety, understanding of safety data sheets (SDS), equipment, fire, disaster, safe lifting, and body mechanics.
  • Ensure compliance with college policies and procedures and state and federal regulations. 
  • Conduct self in a professional manner and ensure the interaction with team members and other support groups is conducted in a courteous and efficient manner conducive to the college's values.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. 
Minimum & Desirable Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
At the time of application, all candidates must possess the following:
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Two years of academic advising experience.
  • Experience with web page development, developing online tools and/or technologies related to student information systems.
  • Previous experience working with students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in Student Services, Education, or related field from a regionally accredited institution. 
  • Experience working with Hispanic, low-income, and at-risk students.
  • Experience providing career and transfer advising.
  • Experience working in a community college or other higher education setting.
  • Experience (high level of confidence and ability) using Microsoft Office products Excel, PowerPoint, and Word specifically, in a professional setting.
  • Experience working collaboratively with individuals, departments, and other entities to achieve a common goal.
  • Experience using computerized student information systems such as SMS, Banner, Peoplesoft, etc. 
  • Experience providing training in small and large group sessions.
  • Experience training faculty and staff is highly desirable.
  • Broad knowledge of distance education technologies and strategies for meeting the needs of underprepared and/or geographically isolated students. 
  • Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency, highly desirable.
