PERSONNEL TECHNICIAN I

Purpose of Announcement
EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) WEST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE PERSONNEL DEPARTMENT AND FUTURE VACANCIES AS THEY OCCUR.

Kind of Work
Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to perform varied personnel work in one of the following areas: Recruitment/Examination, Classification and Pay, or Certification. Employees in this classification perform specialized entry-level personnel work. In the area of Recruitment/Examination, the position is responsible for preparation of examination announcements, the review of job applications, corresponding with applicants, proctoring examinations, and the construction and scoring of tests. In the area of Classification and Pay, the position is responsible for study and analysis of jobs for proper class allocation, preparing class specifications, reviewing of personnel transaction forms, conducting wage and salary surveys, and the preparing of various reports. In the area of Certification, the position is responsible for the maintenance of the Jefferson Parish Civil Service employment registers and the processing of personnel transaction forms. Performs related work as required. After satisfactory completion of probation and attainment of knowledge and ability to work without close supervision, reallocation to the journeyman level class, Personnel Technician II, is permissible. Position requires driving of a personal vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and personal automobile with minimum liability insurance available for business use (business travel is reimbursed on a mileage basis) will be given preference.

Minimum Qualifications Requirements
Must meet ONE of the following:
 
1. Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Public Administration, or Human Resources.
OR
2. Bachelor's degree or higher in any discipline, provided the successful completion of at least eighteen (18) semester credit hours of college coursework in business administration/management, human resources, public/personnel administration, personnel psychology, statistics, and/or other closely related area(s).  
OR
3. Bachelor's degree or higher, from an accredited college or university, in any discipline; supplemented by a minimum of one (1) year of work experience, substantially related to the study and classification of jobs, receipt and review of job applications, proctoring of employment or similar professional written examinations, and/or maintenance of employment eligibility lists. (Note: The Personnel Department reserves the right to determine whether claimed experience is "substantially related" to these listed areas).
