Public Health Laboratory Quality Manager

The Laboratory Quality Manager (QM) is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day clinical laboratory operations and activities of the Quality System at the State Laboratory of Public Health (SLPH). The essential elements of a Quality Management System (QMS) integrate operations, services, and infrastructure into a system that meets applicable regulatory standards, professional guidelines, and customer requirements for ensuring and maintaining quality and continually improving laboratory services. The position is responsible for interpreting, applying, and implementing standards, rules and regulations of regulatory agencies that oversee clinical operations such as CLIA and assuring compliance with all regulatory requirements. This will also include coordination and implementation of quality and safety initiatives involving other stakeholders of the state public health laboratory system. Quality initiatives include accreditation, performance improvement, clinical and public health outcomes, risk management, and safety.

The QM, working with the Laboratory Director and Assistant Director(s) will oversee a QMS throughout clinical laboratory operations at the SLPH to ensure the QMS is well integrated throughout the laboratory, thus fostering a culture of quality, safety, and ethics. Since a primary responsibility of the public health laboratory staff is to provide quality testing and services to support the health of the public and meet the many needs of its customers, the demand for quality is superimposed on all aspects of laboratory operations. Therefore, a QMS is the foundation for every activity at SLPH.

Educational Requirements: Bachelor's degree and/or above in one of the following fields: clinical laboratory science, medical technology, or a chemical or biological science. Degrees outside of these fields do not meet our federal requirements and applicants who do not demonstrate having a degree in one of these fields will not be considered for this position.
