School Psychologist

POSITION OVERVIEW
Under supervision of the Director of Educational Resources, the School Psychologist will become an active member of the school team. The School Psychologist will evaluate students and participate in meetings as a resource to determine appropriate educational programs. The School Psychologist will ensure the implementation of the policies and procedures of the district and the Special Education Regulations, Delaware’ Administrative Code. 
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all the responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate:Conducts Functional Behavioral Assessments and develop Positive Behavior Support Plans.
  • Conducts psychoeducational assessments as delineated by federal, state, and local regulations and procedures.
  • Supports staff with writing measurable, observable behavior IEP goals.
  • Supports staff with monitoring progress through the structuring, collection and analysis of data.
  • Communicates and supports administration/staff with the implementation of Positive Behavior Support Plans and/or behavioral services, supports, and accommodations.
  • Serves as an integral and active member of the Instructional Support Team.
  • Reviews psychoeducational and related assessments that accompany students registering in the district.
  • Participates in the IEP process where psychoeducational assessments are discussed in terms of explaining the assessments, determining eligibility for special education, discussing assessments to be used for reevaluations and/or where behavioral concerns will be discussed.
  • Completes written psycho educational reports.
  • Serves as facilitator of Manifestation Determination IEP meetings. 
  • Implements policy and procedures of the student services.
  • Maintains professionalism, confidentiality, and an atmosphere that promotes student learning.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal and/or Director of Special Education Services.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Below are the qualifications for this position:Must be eligible for State of Delaware Certification as a School Psychologist.
  • Knowledge of best practices in special education.
  • Thorough knowledge of IDEA/504 and the IEP process.
  • Knowledge and ability to interpret psychometric measures behavioral observation scales and monitoring student progress through data collection.
  • Thorough knowledge of conducting Functional Behavior Assessments and developing Positive Behavior Support Plans.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and computer skills.
  • Criminal background check, Tuberculin testing, and health verification.

The following provides a brief description of physical requirements for this position:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies. Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
 
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
The work of this class is generally performed in a school environment. Work may require the ability to move around the school and classroom.

  • PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTSAll persons employed by the Appoquinimink School District are required to submit a criminal background check and a tuberculosis test.
  • Anyone offered employment is required to provide the following: proper identification (Social Security Card and Driver’s License), documentation of eligibility for employment in the U.S.A., completion of I-9 form, and completion of paperwork for the Delaware Child Protection Registry.

Job performance will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions set forth in the negotiated contract between the Appoquinimink School District Board of Education and the Appoquinimink Education Association, Affiliate of DSEA/NEA.
