High School Science Teacher 2018-19

NEW ORLEANS MILITARY AND MARITIME ACADEMY (NOMMA) is seeking a high school science teacher. Subjects taught: 12th grade Earth Science and Physics.

NOMMA is growing Type 2 Charter school where student academic success is supported by the ethos of a military education as all students are cadets of the Marine Corps JROTC program. NOMMA provides learning in a structured environment that focuses on academics, leadership and self discipline. NOMMA is an A school and as a Type 2 school all decision making is school based with teacher input, student driven and focused on supporting the success of all students.

Teachers at NOMMA have an opportunity to positively impact the lives of students as we focus on preparing students for post high school success in college or the career pathway of the student's choice. 

We are looking for teachers who understand the importance of developing relationships with students that motivate, encourage and support student success. We are looking for teachers who understand that the success of students is directly related to the work that teachers do daily in the classroom to create engaging lessons focused on state and national standards so that students are prepared to compete with peers on a national level.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (required)

• At least two years of teaching experience (strongly preferred)

• Demonstrated success in raising the achievement levels of students from educationally disadvantaged neighborhoods (strongly preferred)

• Experience working in urban schools (preferred)

• State teaching credential (preferred)

• A professional work ethic and understanding of data-driven decision making

• Values collaborative planning and importance of being a reflective educator

• A strong desire to continuously learn and increase effectiveness as a teacher and professional

Salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience.
