Primary Function: Lighthouse Louisiana serves people who are blind, visually impaired, or have other disabilities with services, employment, and job placement. The Accounting Specialist supports that mission through expert level bookkeeping; database and records management; and providing high quality customer service to the organization. The Accounting Specialist reports to the Vice President of Finance.

Job Summary: Responsible for creating journal entries, reconciling bank and investment accounts, reconciling general ledger accounts, maintaining general ledger, as well as assisting with grants and contracts administration and compliance.

1.       Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting preferred or similar subject area.

2.       Special Knowledge or Skills: Excellent Excel skills. Knowledge of GAAP. General proficiency with computers and internal programs.  Clear written and verbal communication skills. Strong fundamental math skills, good time management and problem solving skills.

3.       Experience: Two or more years of experience in Accounting.

4.       Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

5.       Physical:  Able to sit for prolonged periods of time, reach, bend, stand and/ or stoop. Abe to travel throughout the facility to safely and effectively manage all work responsibilities, breaks, and emergency evacuations, with or without a reasonable accommodation. Able to mage all self-cared needs and activities of daily living as required to support successful employment, with or without a reasonable accommodation.

6.       Personality Traits: Detail oriented, organized, personable, cooperative. Works well independently, as well as a team player.

7.       Working Conditions: Office setting. Minimal travel to offsite locations. Must have proof of a valid driver’s license, insurance and reliable vehicle.

8.       Work Schedule: Full-time / Non-Exempt.
